Learning objective: Building awareness of homophones
Give students a word that has related homophones – or group of words each of which has homophones, eg there, no, too, here, see, weather.
Invite the class to suggest homophones for each one ie there/their/they’re, no/know, here/hear see/sea, weather/whether and for each one explain its meaning and/or usage.
Ask students to write one sentence containing one of the given words, and at least one of its homophones.
Take feedback, noting sentences on the board. Ask the class to mark them, identifying and correcting any errors. Your board might look something like this:
