Learning objective: To enjoy reading aloud
Take the stress (or at least some of it) out of reading aloud. Model reading aloud to the class. Ask students to identify what makes reading aloud effective and engaging. Look for awareness of fluency, pace and expression.
Divide the class into groups of three or four. Allocate two or three pages of a chapter to each group. Give 20 mins or so for each group to prepare and practise their reading of those pages: more confident readers taking larger chunks of the allocated pages, less confident readers taking just a couple of paragraphs. Now ask the class to read the chapter aloud.
